Villa Origo is a unique experience for the guests who have the chance to spend time in this exceptional place. The villa Origo was originally built at the end of the 15th Century as a wayside tavern, but soon became the centre of an Estate belonging to the great Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala in Siena. In 1924 it was bought by the famous Origo family and became a comfortable home, surrounded by 450 hectares of farmland and farmhouses.
The villa is built following the lie of the hill on three levels and it is completed by an independent apartment on first floor for 6 people. The garden was created by Iris Origo and the English architect Cecil Pinsent. This garden is now famous worldwide and guided tours are held every Wednesday afternoon from 3.00 to 7.00 pm.
Guests staying at the villa have the garden at their disposal and, on visit day, visitors are not allowed to wander around by themselves. Such a place needs to be looked after in a very special way: 3 gardeners work to keep the garden and swimming pool in perfect conditions while 2 full time maids (including a local cook) and an extra daily help take care of the house and its guests.
Meals are often held under the Pergola in the garden, where guests may relax under the shade of roses and wisteria, lulled by the sound of water in the fountain nearby.
